A specialty coffee shop in the heart of the city, Kaph is known primarily for its coffee but almost as much for its outside bench - the coolest place to be seen and to observe others! If it's taken (most likely), head upstairs to the main room overlooking Drury Street.

Coffee Angel is considered by many to be the best coffee you can get in Dublin. As well as coffee, there is a nice selection of treats and pastries. Fairly limited seating so best for a take-out.

Occupying a former cobblers from the 19th Century, Shoe Lane Coffee (which takes its name from the old name for the street, Shoe Lane, which back then was where the shoe makers and shoe shops of Dublin were located - the last remaining of these, Tara Leathers, is next door) does excellent coffee. As well as coffee, there is a wide range of organic pastries, cakes, healthy treats, sourdough toasties, artisan sausage rolls (vegetarian options too) and so on. There is good, free wifi and lots of seating upstairs, making it a great place for a couple of hours of work.

Costa Coffee is a fairly generic coffee chain - similar to Starbucks (which, incidentally, is next door) - that is, quite honestly, nothing special. The coffee quality is debatable - and, in my opinion, overpriced for what it is. However, it has good, free wifi, plugs to connect laptops and space to work.

With more than 50 different teas from around the world, Clement & Pekoe is a serious tea shop. It also has a great range of excellent coffee, too. Also has good wifi and a nice selection of pastries.

2. JOY OF CHA

As well as being a good all-rounder cafe - good food, good coffee - the Joy of Cha is the original specialty tea shop in Dublin. Busy spot for breakfast and all through the day for lunch and dinner.

1. BROTHER HUBBARD

Excellent option for breakfast, lunch, dinner or anything in between, Brother Hubbard is hugely popular among Dubliners and for good reason - the food is fantastic and there is a really nice atmosphere. It's good value, too. More recently, more tourists are finding their way to Capel Street (especially since it was named in the list of thecoolest streets in the world a couple of years ago by Time Out) but it's still authentic Dublin.

2. LEMON JELLY CAFE

Serving breakfast, lunch and good coffee from 7am every day, Lemon Jelly offers everything from full Irish breakfast (and a vegetarian version too) as well as crepes, omelets, ciabetta, smoothies, juices and really good coffee. Check out the menu here.

Also, selection of cakes and pastries, but the real attraction are the Butlers chocolates, which you can buy in boxes or individually. You get a free one with your coffee!

2. IL VALENTINO CAFE & BAKERY

Small, independent cafe that does a breakfast, lunch and snacks in between - and possibly the best coffee you'll find in the neighborhood.

3. THE STAGE DOOR CAFE

Neighborhood cafe with a lot of energy - and known too for serving a great breakfast. Sit outside for serious people watching. Aside from breakfast, it does good lunch too - and among the few places you'll find traditional dishes like Guinness Pie or Dublin Coddle.
